Post-2013 Local Elections Criminality



MAY 16, Thursday


The local COMELEC reportedly proclaimed today Jeffrey Lim as the reelected mayor of Salug together with his running mates in the vice mayoralty and the councilors. It was an 8-0 victory over the local Liberal Party candidates. 

Bomb Explosion. At 1:40 AM, an improvised bomb exploded inside the Salug National High School Campus in barangay East Poblacion, damaging one of the classrooms. [The explosion was not intended to hurt persons so it was not an terrorist action but something to send a message to political opponents. It could be interpreted as a scare tactic against the losing opposition candidates. It could also be interpreted as a protest action against the newly reelected mayor.] [News came out in The Philippine Star]


MAY 20, Monday

A sales collector coming from Ipil, Zamboanga Del Sur was held up by an unknown gunman while collecting payment money from local trader Aling Balud at the purview of many customers. It appeared however that the local trader was also held up for money.

Mayor Jeffrey Lim Abducted, Finally Released

BETWEEN SIX and seven in the evening on Monday, April 2, eight armed men abducted current mayor Jeffrey Lim while having a meal in a restaurant within the new Salug Public Terminal with his wife. Reports from Salug said that under the point of guns the men bound the mayor, put him in a waiting yellow get away van, and drove away towards the nearby town of Caracol.

Later that evening, the get away vehicle was seen burning near the Caracol bridge, the abductors and the mayor are nothing to be found. There is suspicion that they leave through the Caracol seashore.

04092012 - Raids on Known Lairs Failed Joint military-policy forces that the Philippine Army 1st Infantry Division conducted in the last couple of days failed to find the abductors and mayor Lim. These hideouts, identified by the police, are located in the towns of Ipil (Zamboanga Sibugay), Salug (ZDN) and Kalawit (ZDN). Salug police earlier identified the suspects.
11062012 - Returned at Dawn At least 10 men returned abducted Mayor Jeffrey Lim to his family at around three at dawn. This after his family reportedly paid P1.3 million.

A Retuya Arrested for Illegal Drugs in Zamboanga City

THE ANTI-ILLEGAL Drugs-Special Operations Task Force (AID-SOFT) of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company (ZCPSC) arrested in a buy-bust operation Arnold Abragano Retuya (25), an alleged native of Salug. Police Superintendent Diomaie Albarico leads ZCPSC.

Retuya, who currently resided at Villa Margarita, Barangay San Roque, Zamboanga City, was arrested with two other suspects (Ramli Abubakar Salih of Purok 3 in Recodo village and Lilac Vallejo Ramos of Villa Rio in Pasonanca village) in a local pension house along Sta. Maria Road on July 17.

Obtained from the suspects were two sachets of shabu, each selling at P200 in the street; two strips of aluminum foil, a rolled tissue paper, four empty small plastic sachets, and a caliber .45 Colt pistol bearing the serial number 641872, containing a magazine loaded with four live ammunitions. Also confiscated are Honda Wave 100 motorcycle (plate number 4723-JG) and Honda XRM motorcyle (plate number 3301-LG).

Retuya and the other suspects were detained at the Zamboanga City Police Office.

PDEA Delivered Two in Salug District Jail

AGENTS OF the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested Acmodin Acmad (39) and Rajul Sahibad (46) for possession of illegal drugs, and detained them at the Salug District Jail.

Acmad was barangay councilor in Linokmadalum, Lapuyan in Zamboanga Del Sur. On August 10, PDEA agents seized from him 13 sachets containing 2.5 grams of shabu and other drug paraphernalia.

Sahibad was a known member of the Bangsamoro Armed Forces of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). On July 28, PDEA agents conducted a buy-bust operation at the Marc Music Lounge along Padre Burgos Street in Antonio, Labason. Arrested with was one identified as Osop Atih. Retrieved from them were three heat-sealed plastic sachets containing 1.3 grams of shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia, various identification cards, and one unit of black Honda XRM with plate number 8027 JB. Honda XRM is a known holdup targets in the Visayas and Mindanao due to its market value.

BFP Light Flyweight Championship in Salug Gymnasium
Romart "T. I. Yamagata" Sentillas of Mandaue City won the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight crown, over Allan Doronilla of Valencia Bukidnon, by 4th round TKO on 16 September at the Salug Gymnasium. Celso Danggod of Salug draw it out with Phil Angcamor of Cagayan De Oro in round three. Lito Danggod of Salug also had a split with Dondon Navarez of Tambulig, Zamboanga Del Sur after round 6. Kid Bro Lanquido also of Zamboanga Del Norte won by unanimous decision over Rey Morano of Valencia. Rex "Wakee" Salud International Promotions sponsored teh showdown. [Full report]

December

On 28 December, Mayor Jesus Lim, president of the Zamboanga del Norte (ZDN) Mayors' League led 25 mayors of ZDN in protesting the incarceration of former congressman Romeo Jalosjos with the Department of Justice. Their respective towns flew their flags half mast, with huge black ribbons at town halls, in protest.
